Ogdensburg hoping DEC rule will spare Lighthouse Point from wrecking ball

From Channel 50 news in Watertown NY comes this story of a privately owned 172 year old lighthouse whose owner, Blair Roethel, wants to demolish. According to the story, Ogdensburg city officials have contacted the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation) trying to invoke rules that will stave off the destruction of one of the last four lighthouses on the St. Lawrence River. Roethel, who lives in the lighthouse, has already been denied one permit to demolish the light, and has refused comments to the media.
Let’s hope that the city is successful in saving this historic tower.
