Pemaquid Point Gets Facelift
July 11th, 2007 | by Sue |
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Bristol, Maine, featured on the home page of this site, is getting a facelift this year, thanks in part to grants from Lowe’s Charitable Education Foundation, the Maine Historic Preservation COmmission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation and individual donations, the J.B. Leslie Masonry Contractors out of South Berwick, Maine, has begun stripping the old coatings of paint in preparation for new mortar joints and a fresh coat of paint.
Pemaquid Point Light, although having no history of murders, suicides or deaths, is allegedly the home of a ghost, seen in the former Lighthouse Keeper’s home. She’s described as being a red haired lady in a shawl, and is most often seen near the fireplace. No one seems to know who she is, and it would be great if a local paranormal society investigated to see just who she is. Any channelers out there that would be insterested?
The lightkeeper’s home is the site of the Town of Bristol’s Fisherman’s Museum, and also an apartment that the town rents out to private persons.
You can read more about the restoration at the American Lighthouse Foundation’s wesbiste.
